St. Thomas Aerial Tram: Excursion or not

We will be visiting St. Thomas in March 2017 on the Crown Princess. We want to go on the Aerial Tram and that is an excursion from the ship. BUT, I saw on You Tube that it is so close to the ship that you can walk across the street and buy a ticket costing much less. For those in the know I would appreciate input by those who have done this.

Check prices from both places. There are 2 ports and one is not in walking distance to the tram.

For many years the tickets were cheaper if you bought on the ship. Hotel guests get a substantial discount if they go after 5 for the Wed Carnival party. They have to show room key.

Hey Ms411 thanks for the info. Do you, by chance, know which dock is closest to the aerial tramway. I can check the port schedule and see where the Crown Princess will be docking.
