Transportation to Moorea

My DH and I are considering a pre-cruise stay at the Intercontinental on Moorea prior to our Tahitian Princess cruise in August 2006. However, our flight won't be getting into Tahiti until midnight. Does anyone know what kind of transportation (airline flight or ferry) is available at that hour? Also, is it worth spending the money to stay there the first night when we will be arriving so late? Another option we've considered is to stay somewhere closer to the airport the first night, then spend 2 nights on Moorea prior to the cruise. Does that sound more reasonable?

Thanks for your help!

Susan-

We're going on the 8/25 Tahiti-Hawaii. Our original plan was to fly in on the 23rd and stay in an OWB for two nights prior in Moorea. Because the flight gets in late (ours around 945pm), we're flying over 3 days early. We'll spend the first night at the Le Mandarin in downtown Papeete, then go over to Moorea the next morning for 2 nights. We figure since we're spending so much for the hotel in Moorea, we want to get the most out of it!

Sounds like a good plan to us.. but this is our first trip over there.

Hi Susan,

Our flight arrives at 6pm Saturday night. The plan is to stay overnight the first night at either the La Mandarin ( http://www.hotelmandarin.com aprox $130 a night) or The Tiare Tahiti ( http://www.hoteltiaretahiti.info aprox $135 a night and a very short walk to the ferry). We will then get up in the morning and take the ferry over to Moorea to pick up our cars and head to our pension for 2 nights. Since you are coming in so late at night, there is really no transportation over to Moorea until the morning. You could also stay at the Intercontinental by the airport and fly over in the morning, but the Intercontinentals rates are much higher and so is the airfare.
