Hotel before cruise out of Bayonne port

Hi All! Going on Royal Carribean cruise this Saturday out of Bayonne NJ port and we're driving down Friday morning and would like to do something in New York for the day and stay overnight. Husband and 1 year old.

 

Hotel recommendations and area to stay near both the city and cruise port? Doesn't have to be in the city. Jersey City area good?

 

Recommended thing to do with a 1 year old for a few hours and restaurant in the city for dinner.

 

 

Will be driving to the port the following morning.

What's your hotel budget? Are you going to pay to park in Manhattan on Friday and then continue on to a hotel? Or are you thinking of driving to a hotel in NJ, leaving the car, and taking the bus or train into Manhattan?

Would like to spend under $250. We were going to pay to park somewhere then go to the hotel later or depending on time we may check into the hotel first then take the train.
