Tea Snob Posted October 15, 2017 #1 Share Posted October 15, 2017 Our ship will overnight in Kobe port in March. We basically have one and a half days in port. We would like to travel to Kyoto the day we dock and overnight in Kyoto, returning to the ship the following day. What train do we use to get from Kobe port to Kyoto? Any hotel recommendations? Thank you in advance for any input. :hot-beverage::hot-beverage::hot-beverage:Tea Snob:hot-beverage::hot-beverage::hot-beverage:
pacrimheather Posted October 15, 2017 #2 Share Posted October 15, 2017 You can use http://www.hyperdia.com to map this out. I put in Port Terminal (the station next to Kobe cruise terminal) and Kyoto station, and you can see the output here: http://www.hyperdia.com/en/cgi/en/search.html?dep_node=PORT%20TERMINAL&arv_node=KYOTO&via_node01=&via_node02=&via_node03=&year=2017&month=10&day=14&hour=20&minute=12&search_type=0&search_way=&transtime=undefined&sort=1&max_route=5&faretype=0&ship=off&lmlimit=null&search_target=route&facility=reserved&sum_target=7 The goal for your hotel is convenience, so I would stay near Kyoto Station. Perhaps http://www.granvia-kyoto.co.jp/? I haven't stayed at this hotel in Kyoto, but I have stayed at their location near Hiroshima station. The close proximity is a real convenience. Hope that helps!

The close proximity is a real convenience I can recommend the Granvia Hotel in Kyoto - 2 minutes walk from the Shinkansen and lots of shops and department stores in the station complex. You need to take a tour or catch a train/bus to get to the various temples and gardens but the station is a transport hub

DipBrat Posted October 17, 2017 #5 Share Posted October 17, 2017 I always use google maps for transport in Japan. It is a bit more user friendly and seems reliable. Just choose the public transport option and it will give you the trains and times.

As someone with advanced proficiency in Japanese, I can tell you that Google maps for public transport isn't always the best. http://www.hyperdia.com is definitely the way to go I spend 2/3 of my time in Japan, and it has never steered me wrong.
