Carnival Pride excursion ideas...

Hi does anyone have any ideas of what to do at Purto Vallarta, Mazetlan, and Cobo?
I don't really want to spend the money for the excurstions on the boat if I don't have to...

I'd like to swim with dolphins, and although I've never ridden a horse before I'd like to try that too, my husband wants to go fishing.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

We're booked with Randi in Mazatlan - still working on the other ports - plan to book everything on my own - It's fun doing the research....and these Boards & members help so very much.

I would also recommend Randi's. I rode with her this last week and had a very good time. You can find her here:

TinyDancer,
I would also recommend Randi's Happy Horses in Maz. The whole trip to Stone Island is an adventure into the past. And the rate is about $15-20 less than available thru ship. The Sierra Madre bus tour up the coast to Copola and another stop or two to visit a small village, furniture factory, brick making and a nice lunch at a resturant. This is a whole day affair (7hrs) thru the ship and was informative but wouldn't repeat.

For PV, there are tons of things to do, but everything we have done has been thru the ships. We took the city tour and up the coast to the big hotels and resorts, shopping and churches in the Gold Zone, and the neat open taxis. We have also taken the Rainforest Safari adventure which is also an all day thru Vahartta adventures, and includes rainforest short walk, beach bbq, visits to small towns and tortilla factory. This was a blast and included free lunch, open bar and crazy guides. You will have fun on this one!! My son recomm and we were not disappointed, even as old foggies!
In Cabo, we did the whalewatching tour thru the Pride, in February, and it was great. We saw some as nice as we did on Capt Larry's or in Seward. The coastal tour to San Jose de Cabo and city tour was nice the first time we went and Cabo Wabo is always interesting if you are in to Sammy Hagger. The Lovers Beach option looked to be fun but their are not a lot of facilities over there so take what you need. Have a great time, but I think you should stay home and help us see Fairbanks instead one of these trips. Good luck.

I forgot, I have the Pride's excursion list if you need to know anything from it. The independent web sites for Cabo and some of these others are not as user friendly as some of those in Alaska. The ones I have seen are mostly pushing the resorts or fishing. The Carnival,Celebrity,Princess and HAL boards have info on them re Mex riv.

Thanks JQ! I booked Randi's after all the wonderful things I've heard on this board.

In PV I booked us with Charter Dreams for an AVT tour. My husband really wanted to do that one.

Since we are not in Cabo for too long I think we are just going to hang out on the beach and in the town and see what we see.

I'm so exited though I can't wait!

If you need any info about Fairbanks definatly let me know, I'm second genration Fairbanksian and so I'm a pretty accurate source of info.

Tiny Dancer,
When we were on the Rainforest tour, we saw about a dozen ATV's in a little town where we stopped and walked around. They said they were having a good time. I think they were going down to the gravel river bed to ride around but not sure. It will definitely be rough as the roads are bad, but you are probably used to that from your area.
Hopefully, on our next trip, we will have an extra day so we can see a little of Fairbanks.
When we went to a cruise show a few years ago, we met a young couple from Fairbanks who would sing and give a talk on Alaska, and Fairbanks. They said that was the best way to spend the winters--be in Calif.

Randi´s horses are great, we did that one time. The Sierra Madre tour is great also! It is going back to the past. I think the important thing is who you went with. We went with a great tour guide (independent) and he did a great job. The price was also lower then on board. His name is Frank and his e-mail was fkole2000@hotmail.com (hope it is the same one!) Any decision you take will be good! Have a great time.

All you cruisers, Have fun!

We just got back two days ago, what a great time!

In PV we did the dolphin swim. It's pricey, but worth every penney!

For Mazatlan I had tried to book the Stone Island tour on my own, but never got confirmation back from the tour operator. Instead we ended up taking the city tour through Carnival. It was hokey and staged, a waste of time.

In Cabo we did the Santa Maria Sail and Snorkel through the ship. This one was lots of fun.

After all the excursions we still had plenty of time to explore on our own.
