KINGBOBOFTHENORTH Posted December 17, 2005 #2 Share Posted December 17, 2005 Seriously, there are no "can't miss" activities in Nassau! But there are a large variety of things to do and what you should do depends on your tastes: 1) If you're into shopping and/or this is the only shopping port on your cruise, then definitely stroll up and down Bay Street and tour the stores. 2) If you enjoy tropical gardens, take a taxi or jitney out to Ardastra Gardens. Also home to the famous pink flamingo show. 3) If you're into glitz, glamour and casinos, take a water taxi ride from the port over to Paradise Island, stroll past all the huge yachts and visit the shops and casino at Atlantis. 4) If you just want to go sightseeing and don't want to spend a lot of money, I always recommend the Nassau Walking Tour which is done on your own and costs exactly $0. Walk east on Bay Street a couple blocks to Elizabeth Avenue, then turn right and head inland. You'll pass Princess Margaret Hospital, climb the famous Queens Staircase and arrive on a scenic overlook above the city. The best view is from on top of the Water Tower but unfortunately this remains closed so climb the viewing platform at the adjacent Fort Fincastle (also free) for a decent view of the city and all the cruise ships below. When you're done climb back down and return to Bay Street either the same way you came or walk west along Hill Street and then downhill along any of the side streets.
