Getting Casino Cash?

First off - hope everyone had a wonderful holiday. Now for my question - I have read where you can get cash in the casino on your sail and sign card up to a max of 1,000 per day but read conflicting stories on how to do this. One poster reported a rather lengthy process about having a pit boss sign a paper, then you sign, then the dealer and then taking it to the cage; another writes you can just show your card and get it at the casino cage - so confused. Can someone please advise me on the process on the Dawn? Also, is there a minimum to charge? If I can get a couple of huindred at a time I would be a happy camper - less cash to carry on board.

Happy sails to all.

The casino is not a bank. The cash advance is intended for those gambling.

Here is the process. You go to the cashier with your card request an advance against your onboard account. No problem just getting a $100 or $200.

They fill out a slip, you sign at the cage. They give you a copy and you take it to a table, dealer gives it to the manager, you sign it again, the manager signs it you get chips.

What you do with those chips is up to you. Play or cash out at the cage.

There is no charge. It is reported to your credit card as a purchase not a cash advance. Yes its not a bank but they don't mind if you do it within some reason. If you cash a couple of thousand dollars just to get points...

I get a couple of rolls of quarters and hope for the best...sometimes I actuallly win and come out ahead..and would have spent a couple of hundred on the slots anyway(I know its a suckers bet but I always hope I ain't the sucker)

Thanks for the reply - sorry I didn't make myself clear - the $ IS for gaming - I'm an avid slots player and thought it would be easier to get the cash on board. Since it looks like a bit of a hassle, I'll just bring my gaming stash with me.

Thanks again.

The advantage of charging to the cabin is two fold. If you get rewards on your credit card you get points. In the case of the NCL card it is like 4% free money.

The second advantage of the hassle is it makes you think twice before feeding more to the machines.

They may have a easier process for slot tokens.

Thanks for the reply. Does this mean you can get quarters at the cage on your card - no slips to take to the tables?

I guess I don't look at the slots as a sucker's bet (at least not totally) but as entertainment money!

(Sorry for the double post - hit the reply button too fast)

Susan, I remember getting quarters and cash many times but not exactly how. It never took more than a few seconds. I tell them I want a couple of rolls of quarters and some more cash. Sometimes they give me quarters and chips...Never had a problem never was an issue. Slots on ships are notoriously poor for the people stuffing them but I view it as entertainment too with a possibility of getting cash back. In Vegas I have always wound up slightly ahead(better odds there mostly)...That being said most islands in the Carribe are worse than the ships...

it isn't complicated at all. I've done it on both Dawn and Spirit. Give your room card to the cashier, tell them how much you want and they give you the cash right there. It shows up on your room charge. Nobody had to sign other than myself and the cashier.

This is what i was hoping for, however reading Shoreguy's response poses a very different picture.

When you go to the cage they will ask you if you are playing the tables or the slots...

If you are playing the tables they have you sign a voucher. You take the voucher to the table hand it to the dealer who hands it to the pit crew who asks you to sign it again, they call for verification and then they have the dealer give you cash/chips from the table.

If you say you are playing slots the cashier asks how you want your $, you sign the voucher, and will give you quarters, cash or a combination right there at the cage.

immargaret - thanks so much for clearing that up.I couldn't understand why there would be such conflicting information. Looks like I'll be able to carry on less cash and get some extra points as well. OK - bring on the cruise!
