moatenote Posted March 11, 2018 #1 Share Posted March 11, 2018 Our Viking Ocean cruise in October, "The Eastern Seaboard" just canceled visiting Charlottetown and replaced it with Gaspe, Quebec. We would appreciate any information about this port. Thanks!
Jolie_Cruiser Posted March 12, 2018 #2 Share Posted March 12, 2018 The following port guide is dated (2014) but contains a lot of useful information and ideas of things to do with maps. It is free and written by a fellow cruiser. Here is the link: http://www.tomsportguides.com/Gaspe-11-25-2014.pdf
moatenote Posted March 12, 2018 Author #3 Share Posted March 12, 2018 Thanks, Jolie, for that information. I've enjoyed the Mediterranean ports guides that Tom wrote, but I didn't know there were some of Canada and New England. Fun reading!
ellieanne Posted March 13, 2018 #4 Share Posted March 13, 2018 I loved my visit to Gaspe. We were there later in the year, and it was overcast and rainy, and a Provincial holiday, but I still had a fantastic time. We took a ship-based excursion that was supposed to be a whale watching adventure and a scenic tour around Perce Rock. The whale watching was cancelled due to rough seas, but we did sail around Bonaventure Island and Perce Rock, before stopping for lunch in Perce. It was really a great trip. I will say that French is the main language, and in most cases I experienced, the only language used. It certainly was the only language at the restaurants where we stopped for lunch and only the tour guide spoke English, the other people on the tour spoke French. So if you don't have good French skills, you may be limited to what you can do.
