Our check in time on our edocs for New York is at 12pm, what time should we plan to arrive at the dock? We are staying in New York (near Times Square) the night before and getting a taxi and was trying to work out what time to book it for. Any advice welcome.

Generally speaking, if the Gem arrives from it's previous trip by around 7am or 8am; they tend to board around 11am - noon. If the ship arrives from the previous cruise at 10am as it has done in the recent past; do not arrive before 1pm.

 

When we go, we generally try to get to the pier around 11am - noon; this will allow time for traffic, crowds, and incidentals.

 

 

We are taking a trip on the Gem this coming fall, we have been on her a few times, so this time around I may try to get there around 1pm - 2pm, hopefully that will allow for the early crowds to dissipate.

 

Also, the "Check-In" time is pretty arbitrary, they do not adhere to that at all. More than likely your checkout time for the hotel is 11am; leave then for the pier; any sooner and you will be sitting at the pier waiting.

 

If you are excited and want to get your cruise experience started, you can arrive at 10am, check in, wait, and be one of the earlier groups allowed on board.

We show up around 10:15. Priority boarding starts around 11:00. General boarding by 11:30.

 

Your “time to arrive at port” is not enforced.
