Guadalupe - Death In Paradise tour - questions

Recommended Posts

We are due to visit Guadalupe during a back to back cruise in November/December 2019 on the Explorer 2 during the 'Paradise Islands' & 'Seven Shores' itineraries

We will be booking the 'Botanical Gardens & Deshaies Beach' tour which will allow us to visit the Death In Paradise filming locations

Has anyone else done this tour & if so, can you advise us if we are able to wander around the town on our own to see the filming locations? Are the following easy to find - the police station, the market place, Catherine's Bar etc?

How long do you actually spend in Deshaies on this tour?

Finally in respect to Catherine's Bar (or the one used for it anyway) can we pay for drinks in US dollars or Euro's?

Many thanks in advance

Do NOT book this tour - I did it last January and although it was a good tour it was not what we expected

you are coached to Deshaies, you drive through the town and the police station which is a church is pointed out to you. You are then dropped off at the Botanical Gardens, which are very nice and given a guided tour. You are then taken to the restaurant in the gardens and provided with snacks, which included barbecued prawns and French black pudding - lovely and drinks. Back to the coach and you are driven straight back through the town with no stopping and to a beach about 2 miles out of town.

we later found out that a trip to Deshaies to see the filming locations was added and could be booked on the ship and not on line so were very cross.

i am going to Guadeloupe in April on Celebration and the trip I went on is available again but on the last page of the trips is the one we wanted and you will want Its called Tropical TV Drama Trip and its £38

it may not become listed until nearer the time you go

Thanks for the response - will keep that in mind

So the Tropical TV Drama Trip you mentioned - will this be available via Marella Cruises?

If it is then we'd be more interested in that as Deshaies & Death In Paradise is really the main reason for doing the trip.

I believe the shore excursions become available to book in June/July time so hopefully it'll be listed but if not then will keep this in mind.

Anything else you can pass onto us in the way of excursions for the intineries we are doing will be most helpful.

Many thanks

Yes it's available currently on the Marella website for our April cruise but near the end of the list of trips so check all the trips available in Guadeloupe If it's not there keep looking cos they do add more excursions .

sorry not sure where else you are going as ours is the Transatlantic cruise on Celebration from Barbados back to Dubrovnik

weve done many Marella/Thomson cruises so just list where you're going and I'll try to help and so will others

Thanks again & my bad for not actually telling where we are visiting

We are due to sail from Barbados ( been before), Tortola, St Maarten, Antigua (been before), St Kitts, St Vincent, Barbados (again), Tobago (been before), Grenada (been before), Bequia, Dominica, Guadeloupe, St Lucia (been before) and finally Barbados

I can't see this tour as of yet - too far in advance - are you able to post the details?

What we've done - Tortola - initially did an excursion to the beach but on subsequent visits taxied there Also walked around Road Town unfortunately it was devastated in the hurricane so hope reconstruction is well on the way by the time you get there

St Maarten - have done beach excursion into French territory twice and taxied to Airport Beach twice - not to be missed. Also walked to beach from port and water taxied back The port buildings had mostly been rebuilt when there in Jan this year so lots to see

St Kitts - can really recommend the St Kitts railway (done it twice) a ships excursion and other times taxied to a beach

St Vincent - got a taxi to do an island tour

Bequia - you'll be on tender -  we got a water taxi to Princess Margaret Beach (you need to get there early to get sunbeds) and walked back along a narrow path to port and wandered around the small port

Dominica - walked around the port (very poor place which has also been devastated by the hurricane. First time there went on a trip to a waterfall and the Emerald Pool

Hope this helps

Thanks for that

We are actually planning to visit Mustique when we get off at Bequia - so hopefully that'll be a good day

Tried looking on the Marella website but can't seem to see the Tropical TV Drama Trip you mentioned - oh well need to keep looking I suppose

dead easy to get a minibus tour at the dock. takes you to Deshaies  show you the church enter the police station have a break at Catherine's bar for a snack or drink. then onto the botanical gardens which were very good. Then stop by the beach house on the way back. The only downside was the village is very crowded and Catherine's bar is really tiny. Our guide was a mastermind on 'death in paradise' and assumed our knowledge of each episode was the same as hers.

Hi

we booked this tour as a precaution in case the ‘topical tv tour’ was fully booked by the time we boarded.  We have just come back from our cruise on The Explorer and was able to book the tv tour on board and cancel the botanical gardens.  So glad we did as it was a great tour.  We were taken to the station where it is set up with the desk and cells etc after that we had 2 hours to wander round.  We did the early tour and ‘Catherine’s bar’ or Madras as it is called was not open but there is a shop further up so we bought bottles of beer and took then back to the bar.  The area was not busy at all and it was great to be able to have free time.  We met the botanical garden tour and it looked like they were given a view of the bar from afar but not able to walk to it.   Also did the Mustique trip which was great too !
