Try SCUBA recommendations

Wife and I are on Navigator of the Seas ABC cruise and will be in Curacao on April 3rd.

We're interested in trying SCUBA diving but we have zero experience. Several dive companies offer into/try/beginner courses that look great, only takes a few hours and costs around $100. Does anyone have any recent experience with this sort of thing our would recommend a specific company for this?

We have done the "discover" SCUBA thing a couple of times and absolutely love it.  The last time we did it, we were in Cozumel, but the general gist is that you get geared up, they show you how to do the basics, and then you are taken down by a divemaster.  I think the deepest we went was 35 feet, which means you don't have to worry about the bends coming back up.  If you like to snorkel, this definitely takes it up a notch.

We were just in Curacao and did a did a DiscoveryIntroduction* scuba tour with Scubacao.com.  We did a snorkel with them 5 years ago and had a great time.  This time there were 4 of us and wanted to try scuba.  We opted for the two tank dive (you can do a one tank dive if you want).

Bart, the instructor took us to a dive site called "Tugboat" which is one of the featured dive sites in Curacao. You dive from shore.  After checking us out (skill testing)  in 10-15 foot water we went to deeper water.  The second dive was over and around the sunken tugboat and the pier. It was fantastic.   All in all we had a great experience.

I had done a 'discovery" dive on Grand Cayman last year and this was way above and beyond that. The two tank dive will take most of the day so just be aware.

PADI calls it "Discovery" dive while the other certification organization SSI calls it "Introduction" dive. Scubacao tends to follow SSI.
