We would love to hear port activity recommendations for the Norwegian Spirit Summer Solstice fjords cruise. If feasible to DIY we would of course like to minimize expenses as we have a group of 4 adults and booking through the cruise line is expensive!  Ports will be Geriranger, Flam, Haugesund, Stavanger, Trondheim, Hammerfest and Honningsvaag

Lulu, we have a fantastic roll call going for this cruise, with many members from around the world. Please check it out:

We have a lot of excursions planned and just all around good info. I suggest that if you have time, you go back and start reading from page one to see what we have been up to . It's going to be an amazing cruise!

Thank you—I’m sad I missed the opportunity to book the Flam train directly, now trying to decide if want to pay NCL cost or instead take boat ride to Gudvangen and bus back — has anyone on our cruise done this before? Rick Steve’s recommends combining the  boat trip with bus and train, I haven’t investigated to see if can book independently although doubt it since train was sold out.

There is probably advice in your rollcall as well, but when we were at Flam, the highlight of the day was FjordSafari.  It was a blast!  We went to Stegastein, and then the boats and it was a wonderful day, wouldn't have changed anything.

We were able to buy Flam railway tickets directly. At first they showed none available, but I kept checking and about 2 weeks prior to the cruise, there was plenty of availability. No way would I pay NCL 3x the ticket price to be escorted literally across a one street to the rail station!

My husband and I will be on the cruise and would most definitely be interested in joining your group of 4 if it would be feasible. We generally do private tours and I am experienced in arranging them if you'd like. I research guides as well as itineraries for each port. My name is Susan and my e-mail is sbrm5@juno.com if you'd like to reach out. Thanks .

In Flam, I would 100% recommend taking the train to Myrdal and then renting bikes from the cafe and take a leisurely ride back down to town. The first part of the ride contains steep switchbacks, which I walked, but the rest of the ride is fairly straight and easy. You see so many beautiful waterfalls, lush greenery, cute towns and homes, farms, etc. It was the highlight of my Fjords trip last year on the Jade even in the rain!
