NCL Escape Wheelchair Boarding at NYC

Hi all,

My hubby has CP and is (hesitantly) taking his first cruise.  We depart out of NYC in a few weeks and have a port arrival time of 9:30.  We have arranged with NCL for a porter and wheelchair to board and disembark.  I am wondering if anyone can tell me what we can expect, where to go, how helpful staff were?  If we arrive at 9:30, can we expect to be be on the boat earlier?  Is this considered priority boarding?

I'm asking because for many of the same reasons, I would like to get passes to the Adults Only area which I hear sells out within the first hour of boarding.

Thank you!

I have never cruised out of NYC but have cruised multiple times.  In all our experiences we are either directed or lead to the priority boarding area for special needs.  In order to get VIBE passes you have to head straight to either Headliners or Guest Services to purchase.  The last time I was on the Escape they were handed out at Headlines Comedy Club.  You should have no problem getting passes with priority boarding.

Since I have done this before (many times), I will share my experience with you.  When you get to the terminal a porter will take your luggage.  You do not need to carry a thing other than a bag with meds and necessities.  Tell the porter to get you wheelchair assistance and he will have someone bring you a chair to wheel your husband in.  Once inside you will put your name on a list for handicapped and priority boarding.  There may be a bit of a wait since they take you on a first come, first serve basis.  Once your name is called, an escort will take you through check-in.  You will bypass all the people on mega lines who are checking-in.  The escort will bring you directly to your stateroom.  The staff is very willing to help in any way they can.  If you get there at 9:30 you will surely board earlier than the others.  The same holds true when returning to NYC.  Get the escort to take you through customs and you will be on your way before you know it.  Hope you read this before you leave.  Have a great cruise!

Recently disabled, i will second Brandi's post. This was my experience, as well.

We went ahead and purchased a mobility scooter, after considering a rental for our upcoming cruise in April. Really looking forward to some sun, Caribbean breezes and lots of relaxation!!

Bon Voyage!
