Upgrade on Marina

I've just booked on a Baltic cruise on Marina beginning June 24th this year. I tried to access my booking and got a message it had been cancelled - cue 12 hours of panic until my travel agent opened! He tells me I'll receive a new booking number later today and that "You have been given a free upgrade from A4 lead in balcony to an A1 midship balcony".

So I'm a cautious person and  wonder if an upgrade is an ACTUAL upgrade or a convenient relocation for the cruise line's  benefit. Can someone tell me the difference please?

I am a solo cruiser and basically cruise for the destination and not so much the ship experience, although I'm not keen on being stuck under the pool or disco or near elevators. I don't have a room number as yet.

Any advice appreciated,

Chris
