Discounts offered while on a cruise?

We are scheduled to cruise in a few months and I was wondering if the discounts offered while on a cruise are basically the same discounts you can get anytime?  Or is it a good idea to schedule your next cruise while on the ship?

Future cruises aren't offered on board anymore. After you return home, you'll receive an email within a few days with your future cruise offers.  You generally have 2 weeks to take advantage of the offers.
