Yes worked well enough, but it depends on the specific laptop's wifi chip set if it is supported. Make sure to test it at home. Double check that you phone is connected to the laptop wifi and it's IP address is listed in the hotspot UI.

 

It also tends to drop more because of your laptop going into various low power modes and/or sleep.

Thanks. I tested it at home some time ago. I wondered whether there is some issue with sharing the shipboard network that hadn't occurred to me. 

 

Since my laptop is always one of the devices that we want connected to the Internet, it will be convenient to use that rather than a separate router.
