Ride to Catalina. (Monarch ship)

Recommended Posts

Are you referring to the tender ride, or the walk, once on shore. The tender is not the ships tenders, but a couple of large 2 story ships that RCCL hires to do the tendering. The length of time from the pier to the Monarch is under 10 minutes.

Once ashore, it's just a short walk to the main part of town.

Can someone tell me how long the ride to Catalina is from the ship? My hubby (who has never gone!) says its about 10 minutes. Please enlighten me =}

Thanks!

Cindy

It is about 10 minutes. Not too bad of a ride. Make sure they have two tender boats. If they only have one you might have to adjust your time coming back, as it is a bit of a wait with only one.

The tender boats leave every 30 minutes and the trip is about 5 minutes. Very quick but will give you a good chance to take photos of the Monarch from the tender.

I highly recommend renting a golf cart and touring the island. Lots of beautiful vistas from the hillside.

I never did understand the port stop at Catalina Island. Being from Los Angeles, I have been many times. It takes less than an hour to get there from Long Beach, and you can see it from any hill or beach in L.A. So why does it take them all night to get there? Why even go there? Just make it a shore excursion from L.A.

Do you have to rent these from shore excursions on the ship or is it something you can do once you get to the island?

Also, what is the price? Is it by the hour or what?

You can rent them once you get there. I have done it once before. Just make sure you get a good one. The hills around the Island are very steep and ours pooped out on steep hills and backfired everytime we pressed the gas to go up higher.

Check out this site and gold cart info

So they can open the casino in international waters and make money that night...:D

Right off the pier is the golf cart concession. If they are sold out just walk to the other side of town as there are more golf cart rental places there as well.

The rental is by cart and not by person. A four person cart was $35 per hour. They are rented out for 2 hours with the 2nd hour pro-rated on you return time. The 6 person cart was more but I don't remember how much.

My DH and I had a blast. We stopped frequently and he took lots of photos as the views were stunning.

Both Dh & I have lived in S. California all our lives & have never been to Catalina. We are really looking forward to it. Plus, for those that have never been to the area, I'm sure it's a nice place to visit. Besides, where else could they go in 4 nights? :D
