P&O Iona Wifi Confusion?

Hi all,

 

I am a new cruiser and have just booked Iona to Norway next year!

 

On the P&O website it states they have 2 types of wifi packages:

my wifi essential - £10 per day with a cruise plan or £15 per day

my wifi ultimate - £15 per day with a cruise plan or £20 per day

 

What is a 'cruise plan'? I cannot find anywhere on the website about this.

 

Also this prices are crazy stupid!!

 

I read on a blog which was uploaded April 2022 that the prices were way cheaper!

 

Any help would be great!

I can't remember which plan we had this May on Iona, it didn't have video streaming, but we paid £60 for the week for one device. We could use it on all our devices if we wanted to as long as we were only logged onto one device at a time.

Hello I have just purchased a Wi-fi package for my nephew on Iona if you book an essential package it is £10 per day if you book for the duration of your cruise £15 per day if you just book the odd day I think cruise plan just refers to booking for the duration of your cruise Hope this helps

A "cruise plan" is where you pay in one go for the entire cruise. You can buy this at any time during the cruise - it does not have to be on day day and will be priced for the number of days remaining.

That is because the ships do not have broadband but have to use satellite connections which are expensive.

 

Remember - it is not compulsory to use the ship's internet, you can always wait until you are in port and find a free wi-fi connection.

This is something that even experienced cruisers have trouble getting their head around. There are no 5g masts (or even 4g, or 3g for that matterl) in the sea. It is a satellite signal, and even for the more expensive package is not what you are going to get on land.

 

You can buy for 24hrs or a package for the whole cruise (cruise package).

 

Unless you desperately need to stay in touch I wouldn't bother. Just wait until onshore and use free WiFi in ports, or your data, but check your contract for roaming charges etc.

It's surprising how long you have connectivity even in the channel. It's really on the sea days that you'll have no phone signal and if you go down the Sonderfjord to flam.

The only irritation is that you have to be a bit more organised to meet up with people as you can't just ring someone to find them.
