We normally don’t buy excursions from the cruise ship, I read that snorkeling the Great Barrier Reef is the best from Port Douglas! will there be local companies at the port selling tours for snorkeling? Or should I book online ahead of time ? Will be there on a cruise mid November. Thanks for any recommendations.

Investigate ahead of time, it could be the cruise offer is best.

Check reviews and make sure you find an operator with  a good reputation, there is a movie about scuba diving on the reef!

Look at Trip adviser for recommendations and warnings.

Which ship are you on? You will need to consider the time of your excursion, if it will return to the port in time for your ship's departure.
