NCL Amex Platinum

Hi,

I am new to  Amex Platinum, and with the current amex offer, I'd like to use cards to book.

-What amex platinum benefits do we get credit and restaurant wise by booking?  Are certain travel agents authorized amex platinum agents to not have to book directly with amex?

For Amex Travel Insurance - does anyone know if this is sufficient for medical coverage?  I know it is secondary, but if we have no other insurance, I imagine the medical/evacuation benefits would go into effect.  Does anyone have any answers to the below:

-What medical coverage is included?

-If a family member across our two related bookings gets the flu or covid prior to the cruise, are there cancellation benefits that would reimburse us the cost of the trip?

-For platinum travel benefits, I know the full trip has to be booked with an amex platinum card.  If there are 4 family members / friends across two rooms, can we each use our platinum card with the reservations being fully paid for by platinum (2 platinum cards in each of our names per each room), or does it have to be the same one platinum card per reservation?

-Are there any add on options for additional coverage?

-Does anyone have experience with coverage and claims?  We've used Travel Insured and they were a nightmare to deal with for claims.

Thank you.

Also a few additional questions

-for trip cancellation and interruption if included in a policy, if a family member was to get Covid a few days before the cruise and a doctor deemed them unfit to travel, would this be covered?

-for trip cancellation and interruption if included in a policy, if a family member was to get Covid during a cruise and is required to quarantine for the rest of it, would they be entitled to reimbursement?

-if we have 2 rooms for 4 people and if one person gets Covid or the flu prior to the cruise, would we all be able to cancel if we have connecting reservations?  Or would only the person in the room with the Covid positive person be entitled to reimbursement?  We all live in the same household if that matters.  We wouldn’t want to cruise without each other if one of the four of us was to be unable to travel.

Thank you very much

@cusematt4 I am an American Express Platinum card holder.  Depending on the stateroom you choose you can get as much as $300.00 per cabin OBC and dinner for two in the French Restaurant.  You need to verify that your TA can get you these perks.  If not, book with AMX Travel.

On the Insurance.  I always take 3rd party Travel Insurance, always.  Worth every penny.  I have had two claims in my last three cruises including one for Covid.  AMX will pay what the travel insurance does not pay.  The problem is AMX has coverages up to $10,000.00 if I am not mistaken.  But it does not cover everything.  Please check with them but better be safe.

On travel insurance.  My claims were paid in 15 business days or less.  The company I used was Allianz Global Assistance.

I just booked two rooms for my friends and me.  I used my American Express Card and got all the benefits for both rooms.  Hope that answer that part of your question.

Cruise well and enjoy every moment.

Depends on the company.  My wife got Covid 8 days before the cruise and I would have lost $5,000.00.  Instead, the company paid me in 15 business days.  Again, the company was. Allianz Global Assistance.

Thank you.

I have the Platinum card as well. I get outside insurance. I read the policy [to the best of my ability] and it seems to me that it is only for the main card holder. SO if you were planning on booking the second cabin using an authorized user of your account's card you would not have insurance coverage for them that way [medical or cancellation]. Further, if you travel with adult children [like over 18 or 19 I think] they are not included in the coverage.  (to be clear: the other cabin will get the OBC and LeBistro dinner, but not insurance)

like @Sthrngarysaid its got a reimbursement cap.

I am not versed in insurance or contract jargon, but it really didn't look to me to be a good choice for travel insurance for a cruise. AND if you planned on using one account (regardless of how many authorized users on it) for two cabins with non-related people I don't think it you are actually covering everyone.

Go to the Amex website and look at the terms of the travel insurance [not the little couple paragraph one, but rather 😕 the long confusing one] Then contact the insurance company directly to find out what is and isn't covered and for whom before relying on it or purporting to your travelmates that they have coverage.

AGAIN, to be clear, this is the way I understood the policy to read. Could I be wrong -- hell, yes. It certainly would not be the first time. Get definitive information from insurance and ideally have specific questions that you can get written answers for.
