3 day escape prior to a cruise out of Rome (Civitavecchia)

We’d like to spend 3 days before a cruise in July, out of Rome (Civitavechia) somewhere not too far from the port.  We’d appreciate any suggestions of a town and/or lodging?

Rome is not close to the port. We flew in and booked a transfer to our hotel and stayed 3 nights before getting on a transfer from our hotel to the port.

Have you been to Rome? We loved it so much that we are returning next year to do a land tour in Italy before getting on our ship for a Trans Atlantic home.
