WIS-Cruiser Posted May 25, 2023 #1 Share Posted May 25, 2023 Booked at tour that wants us to meet at Mucem. What's the best way to get there from the cruise port as mapping looks like it's a 1.5 hour walk which obviously will not work. If the tour company won't pick us up, is taxi our best option? Thanks! edinburgher Posted May 25, 2023 #2 Share Posted May 25, 2023 (edited) Booked at tour that wants us to meet at Mucem Most cruise lines will run shuttle buses from Fos port to somewhere around the Vieux Port and....MUCEM, so if your cruise line offers this, it would put you in close proximity to MUCEM, or around a max 5 minute walk away. If you are early you could explore some of the below or the Vieux Port while you wait. Shuttle buses back to Fos will usually leave from the same spot where you were dropped on arrival. MUCEM is located across from the Cathedral of Marseille which is also worth a visit and one of the entrances to le Panier area ( one of the oldest areas of Marseille) is next to the Cathedral, just to the right as you face the entrance. An alternative would be to take a taxi from the port to to Joliette, a transport hub where you could take a metro or a public bus to somewhere around MUCEM/Vieux Port/cathedral. You would need to check online metro and bus routes and stations/stops for the info as I cannot help with that. WIS-Cruiser Posted June 10, 2023 Author #3 Share Posted June 10, 2023 Thanks - sorry didn't get an alert that you'd responded. Doesn't sound quite as easy as we'd hoped.
edinburgher Posted June 11, 2023 #4 Share Posted June 11, 2023 (edited) You could also walk from la Joliette. Likely a 20-30 minute walk. It may be easier to take a ship shuttle which usually would drop off near to the Vieux Port, Fort St Jean area which is very close to MUCEM. Or used to be back in the day before the world turned topsy turvy. You could perhaps ask on the forum of the cruiseline you are sailing if shuttle buses were available at Marseille, and if so, where the drop off/pick up point was. And check your Roll Call to see if anyone has already posted shuttle info or has arranged an alternative and is looking for others to share.
