Carnival Legend Wedding Review and Pics

Recommended Posts

I just got back from my 5/15/04 wedding on the Legend. I was e-mailing a couple of other brides and am posting my response to them as my review. I am also posting a link to a few of the pictures that were taken by the Carnival photographer. Please let me know what questions you have. I'll answer whatever I can.

The wedding went well. Unfortunately, we didn't board until about 12:30 (the wedding was at 1PM). That was OK for me because my hair and make up were done already. All I had to do was put my dress on. What I found a little frustrating was that all of my sailing guests rooms were not ready. I knew this going into it, but hadn't thought about all of their carry on luggage. All of them had to leave their luggage in my room. Normally this would not have been a problem, but I only had about 15 minutes to get dressed. My husband did go to a friends room to get dressed even though their room was not clean. I guess now that I am looking back my guests could have left their luggage in their rooms, but I didn't want them to see the rooms before they were cleaned.

We chose to get married in the chapel even though we had more than the 40 recommended guests. A few people had to stand, but they did not mind at all. Most of the people who wanted to video and take pictures stood in the back anyhow. The ceremony was only about 15 minutes which was perfect. It was very hot and my husband felt like he was going to pass out. He is not big on being the center of attention. The officiant called me Molly, which made everyone laugh and broke the tension a little. Needless to say, I now have a new nickname. I corrected her right away and everything else went fine.

After the ceremony we said thank you to all of our guests. I think this is called the receiving line. Then we were escorted to Billies Piano Bar. It looked beautiful. Everything was set up perfectly and the piano player was already playing when we arrived. The photographer quickly had Ed and I cut the cake and do a Champagne toast for pictures. This is when things started to get a little crazy. The only downside to the entire wedding was the coordinator. She really didn't do anything. The guests were not told what was going on and my husband's father quickly ran up to do a toast when he saw us with champagne. I'm not even sure if all of our guests had champagne at that point. I don't think so.

Then we were taken around the ship to take more photos (just the two of us). When we returned half of our guests were gone. The coordinator did not tell them where we were and they were walking around the ship trying to find us. All of this confusion could have been prevented if she announced what was going on to our guests. This is my only suggestion for cruise brides. Make sure your DJ, piano player, or anyone with a microphone tells your guests what is going on! As guests started to return we posed for more pictures with family and friends. We also did a group shot on the staircase in the atrium. This picture came out gorgeous. By that time everyone who was not sailing had to leave. It went way too fast. My guests also thought so. This may be because we got on the ship late and they did not have enough time to look around before the ceremony. I felt kind of bad that they all came and brought gifts for such a short reception. But, I still think they had fun. It was definitely something they had never done before.

A couple more things I want to mention. We had a balcon room. It was # 7258. If you look at the deck plans, you can see it has a HUGE balcony. This does not cost any extra money. There is a storage closet or something next to the room and they just extended the balcony. There are a few other rooms like this on the ship. If you are booking a balcony room, try to get one of these. After the wedding we went back to our room with friends and family for the sailing. It was so nice to stay on the balcony and not have to crowd in with people on the main deck. We were on the port side and had beautiful views of the Manhattan skyline. We took a lot of pictures of us in front of the skyline, but I didn't get those back yet. If you would prefer to see the Statue of Liberty, get the starboard side of the ship. Port side means you will have sunsets on your balcony when returning to NY. We had a sunset party in our room on one of the nights returning with our family and friends. We also took a lot of pictures that night.

The next day our professional pictures were ready. We went down to see Silviya. She started to tell us about a package that cost $2100.00. All I really wanted was the CD with all of the pictures. To get this we had to buy $600.00 worth of the printed photos. That is what we did. We picked out about 40 8x10's and she gave us all of the 5x7's. I am going to print the pictures off of the CD myself through snapfish. One word of caution though. The files on the CD are huge. Each picture is 3.5 megs and it takes a long time to upload them.
