Odin's Raven Posted August 22, 2023 #1 Share Posted August 22, 2023 We are cruising out of Lisbon Portugal. Never used the Casino on Getaway . How do you purchase chips for tables? I don’t want to go through my onboard account. Can you use cash? Is it Euros or Dollars? Also the slots, do they take notes in the machines? Dollars or Euros notes? As you can see I’m needing a lot of help even before I get started!
Rare BirdTravels Posted August 22, 2023 #2 Share Posted August 22, 2023 The currency of all NCL ships, regardless of where they are sailing, is US Dollars. All transactions are in dollars (casino, room charges, stores, shore excursions, etc.) The casino takes cash. You buy chips at the table and use them to gamble. When you are done, you take your chips to the casino cage (cashier) and cash them in for US Dollars. The casino cage will take other currency, but the exchange rate to US Dollars is usually "not great". There is an ATM machine which charges $5.99 service charge per transaction. If you advance off your room account, the ship will charge you 3% service charge. It shows up like a ship's purchase to your credit card company (i.e., not a cash advance). Consider, if you withdraw $500 from the ATM, you get a $5.99 service charge. If you charge your room account, NCL will charge you a $15 service charge. 1

Odin's Raven Posted August 22, 2023 Author #4 Share Posted August 22, 2023 I really would like to set a limit to my spending that’s why I thought of ready cash. Another way I was thinking is to load my onboard account up with a credit for my little flutters before I join the ship (pre credit my account ) If I I did this, can it be used in the Casino? Sorry if I sound a bit lost with this but I just want to get it right .
