Suggest a HAL transfer---bus or train. 

The road from Anchorage to Whittier is 2-lane, and long. If there is an accident, then traffic can be tied up for a very long time. At least with a HAL transfer they will get you to the ship somehow. The ship may wait, or HAL will get you to the next port.
