Imagination room/upgrade ?????'s

I am still having trouble understanding the difference between the cabin categories and what constitues an upgrade on Carnival. Please help!!

For our sailing on July 29th on the Imagination my friends and I have been assigned cabins 115 and 119 on the Riviera deck. They are outside cabins. Our rooms are categorized as a 6A - what does that mean? What is a better "better" cabin, what is a "worse" cabin?

Also, while I know it is not the bottom of the ship, it is the lowest passenger deck. Would an upgrade be a move to higher deck? Or is it not possible, on the Imagination, to even get upgrades, as the only balconies are also suites?

My TA says we have great rooms and there is no where to upgrade to but a suite and I just think a higher deck would also be an upgrade. At least it was on my only past cruise (on RCCL).

Also, what classification of ship is the Imagination (ie: Spirit Class)?

I have tried to learn this information from the Carnival site, but find it slow and hard to get the specific info I want.

My understanding is that a category 6 rooms are the same just on different decks. A 6D would be the exact same room only different location. It all boils down to what you will be happy with. How much time do you plan to spend in your room? We had an 8A Balcony on the Triumph and loved it, but we have a 6C on the Sensation and I am sure we will love it too, because I don't cruise to sit in my room. As long as it is clean and comfortable it is mainly a place to sleep, shower, change clothes and take your afternoon siesta. If money is no object then by all means upgrade to a suite! Otherwise save your money for the next cruise. Whatever you do have a wonderful time.
By the way we only took a 6C instead of a 6A because Carnival had a special where you could get the highest deck in the category for the minimum price.

I don't really want the suite for this cruise - just wondering about the different decks and if there is a difference. I will save the suite/balcony for longer cruises with my DH (this cruise is with my mom)! Much of what I want from this post is a greater understanding of Carnival and the Imagination - I am a planner and like to know stuff before I am on board!

Thanks,
Ally

On the Fantasy-class ships (the Imagination is one of them!), a cat 6 is they highest category you can get outside of a suite. Within the cat 6, though, you are correct that there is an "upgrade" within the cagetory. The 6A is on the Riviera deck, 6B is the Main deck (one deck up), 6C is on the Upper deck (another one up), and 6D is the Empress deck - yet another one up, also where you will enter the ship om embarkation, the ground floor of the atrium, the location of the purser's desk, and the shore excursion desk (on the Elation and Paradise you also get a bar! Aggieastrosfan is right...I would think you would be upgraded to a 6B, 6C and so on. We booked back in March when the online travel agent was honoring the Carnival one day sale which entailed a free upgrade within that category. So basically we booked a Category 6 Oceanview on the Empress deck (6D) for the price of a 6A on Riveria. We stayed on Empress on Inspiration (same Fantasy class ship) and really enjoyed it. I think it's one below the dining rooms and is where the information/shore excursion desk is. To me it's just more convenient. If you are staying on Riveria you either have to hoof it up several flights of stairs or wait for an elevator b/c you don't have anywhere to go but up. But I wouldn't worry even if you keep the cabins you've got. I think they will be fine.
