Coastaljewel Posted November 5, 2023 #1 Share Posted November 5, 2023 Looking for opinions on Denail pre-cruise. We have done a couple of Alaska cruises. Considering May 24, with a 7 day cruise preceded by Denali or just the 14 day cruise. I read the Denali itinerary and it is a lot of 6 AM starts.. and moving from one hotel to another. Just would like to hear from people who have done “Denali”…. Leaning toward 14 days of ship pampering…. But I could be overthinking this. irishwitchy Posted November 5, 2023 #2 Share Posted November 5, 2023 All the hotel movement is because, prior to the landslide in the park, everyone would get in a school bus and spend a very long day going out to Kantisha lodge. That lodge is 92 miles into the park. However, the landslide is at mile 42, so you can’t get there at this time. So, in the past, the tours stayed at the beginning of the park for at least two full days, if not three. I stayed at Kantisha lodge years ago and it was beautiful and the hiking was great, until the day trippers appeared! Now you have to fly in and out to that lodge. I did just look this up, it doesn’t open until the beginning of June. We did our own thing starting in Fairbanks and using the train to travel between tge towns. Good luck with your planning.
