Falmouth port, stay on the ship?

The last time we ported in Falmouth we did a ship snorkeling excursion. We were bussed 30 minutes, catamaraned 30 minutes, snorkeled in a terrible, deep water, choppy location for 30 minutes and then repeated in reverse. I also remember not being impressed with the area as we traveled through the country.

Now that we are due to port in Falmouth again, I’m hesitant to book another excursion. We don’t want to travel long distances on a bus, and don’t like crowded excursions, so don’t think we’d like Dunn River Falls.

Would anyone recommend something to do not to far from Falmouth with easy transportation to and from? Open to beaches and/or adventure. At this point, seriously considering just staying on the ship. TIA!

We are booked on the Celebrity Ascent in December and our port day in Labadee was changed to Falmouth.  As you say the Falmouth excursions require extended travel time since it is located between the established tourist designations.  With that we plan to stay on the ship as have no desire to waste time traveling on a bus or be hassled shopping locally.

Also thinking about staying on the ship

here. Last visit (solo) I got a pedicab guide and saw a little of the area, which I enjoyed. I like seeing places through a locals eyes.

Can you share the name of the company or guide you got info from?   I’m also looking to do private to Dunn’s River Falls.
