Nassau tour

We are going to be in Nassau in June and looking for a land tour of the area. We will have two teenagers with us, so not looking for a long 2 hour drive. Maybe something with stops at points of interest like Ardastra Gardens, etc. where we can get out and walk around a little. Anybody have any suggestions?

Most of what you want to see if nearby to port, or a quick $1 jitney away.

You can walk to most of the historic sites and government buildings. The zoo is just 5 minutes by jitney or a 15 minute walk. Fish Fry is nearby, Atlantis across the harbour (take a ferry) etc.

Figure out the things you really want to do.. and post them. We'll map them out for you.

Here's a great local map with most of the historic sites marked. The Zoo, Fish Fry and Fort Charlotte are just off the map to the west.

Thanks for the offer scubagirrl.:D We already have a dolpin encounter booked for the kids in the morning, so we will only have the afternoon to see Nassau. From what we've been able to learn so far, we would be interested in the straw market (for souvenirs), the Queens staircase, Fort Fincastle, Pirates Museum, and Ardastra zoo for the flamingo show. Is all this doable??? And, as you may have noticed, we posted a thread inquiring about parasailing in Nassau. Are we being too ambitious?

Thanks again for all the help.

Keep in mind that the Straw Market will start closing up around 5pm, so you may have to time that before of after your other trips.

As for the other venues. You can use the map and head up Elizabeth Street to the Queens Staircase and Fort Fincastle, then down to the Pirates Museum (George and Marlbourough Street), this should all take about 1.5 hours or less.

Then grab the #10 jitney from either George Street or Mcdonalds on Marlbourough (either a half block east or a block west of the Pirates Museum) Just ask the jitney driver to drop you at the road that leads to Ardastra Zoo. (it's about a 5 minutes ride, then a 5 minute walk.). Check the Zoo website for flamingo show times and lorry parrot feedings. These are must do's at the zoo.

Grab the same jitney #10 back to town or walk the esplanade along the water. *or continue on to Cable beach by jitney to parasail if time permits

Not sure about parasailing. This is done either at Cabbage Beach on Paradise Island, or Nassau Beach Hotel at Cable Beach. Each would be at least 15 minutes from downtown. Quick availability is sketchy. (They don't take reservations and may be out with a group).

They will also be packing up around 5pm, so you're timeline may not be good for packing this all in.

Thank you for the quick reply. 15 min. to Cable Beach from downtown - is that taking a cab or jitney?? Would we look for the #10 jitney to go to Cable Beach?

Cab or jitney will both take about the same time. Driving is about the only thing that is fast in the bahamas.
