hunymoon06 Posted April 21, 2006 #1 Share Posted April 21, 2006 Hey there, I have never been on a cruise or researched about them, but my fiance & I thought it would be a perfect thing to do for our honeymoon since we're getting married October 8th, 2006. I am wondering what cruiseline is the best for honeymoons and which "route" should we go on, everyone tells me that we should go on a southern caribean cruise as it goes to aruba, barbados etc. and they dont get hurricanes there, but does it really matter? Also how much do people usually spend on cruises - we are from Canada so we'd probably spend a bit more on flights etc. Sorry for all the questions! :-) We just cant wait to book the perfect cruise for our honeymoon. scottishflower Posted April 21, 2006 #2 Share Posted April 21, 2006 Congratulations! I have done the southern caribbean route on Celebrity and it was one of the best weeks of my life. Aruba was amazing, the St Thomas beaches were incredible, we loved Barbados and St Kitts as well. Celebrity was a great line, we were very happy with the food and service. You get a little less of the family and party crowd, but with a port stop every day, we didn't need to be entertained on the ship. With S. Carib, you'll likely fly into San Juan, Puerto Rico, which can be pricier than flying into Florida, but if you're in Canada, that might not be the case - you could go to expedia or orbitz to run the numbers. The western caribbean is much more likely to get hit by hurricanes, but Puerto Rico and the nearby islands also get hit, so don't think that choosing a So Carib itinerary will make things risk free. I'd recommend trip insurance if you do. Any kind of travel in the Carib is risky in Oct (Wilma hit in October last year, and destoyed a lot of Cozumel, including the piers), so you could also consider delaying your honeymoon until December, if your heart is set on the Carib. If not, and you still want beaches, there's always Baja Mexico? or Hawaii? We got married in Key West in Feb on a cruise with stops in Coz and Belize and the weather was perfect. We used RCCL and for the most part we enjoyed it, although there were a few too many bratty kids on board, and silly pool activities - the service was very good though. IMHO the food and drink was better on Celebrity. Next time we'd like to try Holland America, something more mellow. I'm a fairly young person, but I like hanging with the older crowd better ;) Good luck with your decision!
KirbyCruiser Posted April 21, 2006 #3 Share Posted April 21, 2006 I love cruising and it really doesn't matter to me were the cruise takes me as long as I am along for the ride. We are trying the western Carribean this time only because we havn't been there yet. Yes, Southern Carribean is beautiful. I think how much you spend depends on how much alchohol you drink, how much time you spend in the casino, and how much shopping you like to do. We have cruised and spent close to $1000.00 but then again we have cruised and spent less than $200.00. Alchoholic beverages range from $4.50 to $9 per drink. I suggest you make a budget and stick to it. You can have a wonderfull time and not spend much at all.
