Need help finding a good beach

We loved Paradise Beach in Cozumel. Buy drinks, use the chairs, toys and beach for free. It was a wonderful day for us. We are going to miss Paradise Beach this trip but I would like to know of some similar places in the Caribbean. We will be visiting:

 

Roseau, Dominica with two small children

 

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Sorry, but I doubt you will find this on Dominica. Consider taking an island tour and visiting the falls, or a whale watching tour.

What about a nice peaceful beach close to the pier for families? How 'developed' is Dominica?

How developed? Not much development at all - a tour or shore excursion is the standard recommendation for this port of call. The island is an amazing rain forest - an ecotourist destination, not much in the way of a Caribbean beach scene. The coastline is rugged and the island is mountainous.

 

I can appreciate that with small ones this is not what you hoped to hear. Hopefully others will respond with how they handled Dominica with toddlers.

There is not much development in Dominica at ALL. No real beaches, no shopping. It's rainforest, so that's about it. There is the Champagne Reef for snorkeling, but that's not something you'd do with little ones.

 

It depends on how small the kids are, but we did a jeep tour that was fun. There was a boy of about 10 on the jeep and he enjoyed it a lot. But, that's about the youngest I'd go, because it's a long day and you can get rained on (you're in the rainforest, after all).

 

They do some island tours in buses instead of the open jeeps, and the whale watching thing (as someone else suggested) might be okay.

 

Dominica is definitely a sightseeing rather than relaxing port.

Thank you for your replies. You have made this port an easy decision for us. We will likely ask Nana and Grandpa to help with the kids this day, so my husband and I can do an excursion together. Out of all of our ports, this sounds like the one we will need to call in backup for. THANKS!
