Progreso/Merida for handicapped?

A few in our group can't get around very well. One just had knee surgery; one is in a motorized cart a big portion of the day; and one needs a walker some of the time. What could they do in Progreso? Would Dzib...ruins be in any way accessible to them? Or should they just plan on some shopping?

Remember, most of the sidewalks are pretty narrow. When I say narrow, I mean barely three feet wide, even in downtown Merida. They do have chair ramps in most cases. As I recall the walks along the Malecon (seaside street) in Progreso, are wide. I suspect the staffs in the restaurants along the Malecon would be very helpful. The sidewalk along the beautiful and upscale Paseo Montejo in Merida are very broad and would be great for strolling. Lots of benches for resting too. Even a sidewalk art exhibit. Also the many plazas in Merida would be great for walkers or chairs for people watching. Busses don't have ramps for motorized chairs or other equipment. Have a great visit.
