isabellmybell Posted June 30, 2006 #1 Share Posted June 30, 2006 Hi Yall, we will be there Dec 10th, who is the best to go scuba diving with? And where is the best place to do that? I looked on the travel sight and really didn’t see much of anything. Thanks a bunch for your help.:)
hdawson Posted June 30, 2006 #2 Share Posted June 30, 2006 Progreso is not really a scuba or snorkle port. Lots of other options though.
hdawson Posted June 30, 2006 #3 Share Posted June 30, 2006 Progreso is not really a scuba or snorkle port. Lots of other options though. Progreso is on the gulf, not the Caribbean.
isabellmybell Posted July 3, 2006 Author #4 Share Posted July 3, 2006 Thanks could you give me other recommendations? We prefer anything to do with warm water. Why is there no scuba driving? We have to dock to get there, so I just thought there would be diving like all the other ports.
hdawson Posted July 3, 2006 #5 Share Posted July 3, 2006 As I said, Progreso is on the gulf. Not the sparkling clear Caribbean. The water is very shallow until you get far out. That's the reason for the four mile pier for ships to dock on. The water is very warm. Check out http://www.yucatantoday.com for other options. It's a nice beach with some very good restaurants accros the street.
isabellmybell Posted July 6, 2006 Author #6 Share Posted July 6, 2006 Ohhhhhhhh, ok didn't realize there was a difference, learn something every day! Guess this will be a beach day. Is there a good swim up bar? Anything particular we just shouldn't miss? Thanks a bunch!;)
hdawson Posted July 6, 2006 #7 Share Posted July 6, 2006 There is no swim up bar in the water. Don't miss the very, very fresh fish in the restaurants along the Malecon. Le Saint Bonnet is a good choice.

cptmking Posted October 22, 2006 #9 Share Posted October 22, 2006 We are divers as well and HD is right....no diving or snorkeling in Progresso. We have been the past two years due to last minute schedule changes.....errrrrr! The first year we did the DZ ruins and snorkeled a bit in a ceynote (small but refreshing). Last year we found an all inclusive resort (Called the Reef I think) and drank our sorrows away!!!! Merida is a good place to shop and sight see from what I hear. Corona beach is just off the pier. Not your typical Caribbean beach but they do have beer - lots of it!!! There is a rumor that our cruise (Miracle 12/24) is stopping there instead of Costa Maya - errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!! Best of luck!!!
