Kindlychap Posted July 18, 2006 #1 Share Posted July 18, 2006 There is a nationwide strike by railway signallers from noon 21/7 to noon 22/7 and from noon 27/7 to noon 29/7. Disruption should be expected on all days. Some operators will manage a small service. Others, including South West Trains, are advising passengers not to travel. There are also other strikes, this time involving drivers, on SWT only on 28/7, 31/7, 11/8 and 14. and 31 and August 11 and 14. Again SWT advise people not to travel. Hope this doesn't affect too many people.

gratefulguy Posted July 20, 2006 #4 Share Posted July 20, 2006 Thanks for taking time to warn us! (BTW,these boards are having a fit today). It is very difficult to learn about these things over here, since we tend to get news focused only on what our guys are up to! I see that National Rail offers a link to "service bulletins", but earlier this week, there was no mention of strikes. Hope this doesn't cause you big delays. Kindlychap Posted July 20, 2006 Author #6 Share Posted July 20, 2006 At present the National strikes by the signallers have been cancelled. There is still, I believe, a threat to South West Trains, but clearly this will not affect Virgin services.
KarenR_UK Posted July 21, 2006 #7 Share Posted July 21, 2006 All the strikes mentioned above have now been suspended. The first union has had a new offer so need to ballot its members on acceptance - hopefully this will mean this dispute is over.:) The second had queries about the legality of the ballot for the strike - this probably means they will re-ballot and the strikes will be rescheduled:( Karen
