taxis on strike in bermuda

Just returned from a great week in Bermuda. 6/26-7/3. For those going, the taxi drivers are on strike. They are striking because the governments wants to require that they have a GPS system installed in their taxis. There are some random Bermudians that will offer to act as a taxi. We did see a couple of regular taxis in operation but dont count on finding one. As I am sure you have read, the bus/ferry system is very efficient. We had hoped to take an island tour through one of the taxi's with the blue flags that specialize in that. For all those going to Bermuda, have a great time! We traveled on Celebrity's Zenith and found everything about it to be outstanding.

There are more excursion choices f rom Hamilton. We did ours from St. George. I heard very good things about the Hartley Helmet Dive in Hamilton and also the Restless Native Catamaran Snorkeling Swim and Sail. Also many people liked the Jesse James Snorkeling excursion. A couple at our dinner table did the cruise and kayak eco tour and enjoyed that....said it was about 3 hours and they did get tired. Another couple at our table did the bermuda glass bottom boat safari and saw lots of fish and sea turtles. All of these things were in Hamilton.

We talked to some people who did the Dolphin encounter and said it was awesome. We did observe people interacting with the dolphins and wished that we had brought our swimsuits. This was at the dockyard.

We personally did the Peppercorn Helmet dive and would do it again. I do feel that Hartley may be a better run operation. We also did East End Snorkeling Adventure and that was a great experience. We also did the St. Georges Island Highlights by Bus (because there were no taxis) and this was a very good tour. We went to Fort St. Catherine for about 40 minutes and then to the St. David's lighthouse for 20 minutes...the rest of the time we got a nice tour of the area. It was a 3 1/2 hour trip. Friends at our table did the St. Georges Sunset Sail and also the Crystal Caves, Glass Blowing Studio and Perfume Factory tour.....they liked both. All of the excursions in this paragraph were done from St. Georges.

We chose not to do excursions in Hamilton because we wanted to spend some time at several of the beaches in Hamilton as well as walk around the town. We had heard that there isnt much to do in St. George and that is very true. The two things I would have liked to do that we didnt do was Hamilton Harbor Nights and Dolphin encounter. 3 1/2 days in Bermuda was not nearly enough!!
