Arubalisa Posted August 14, 2006 #6 Share Posted August 14, 2006 Anywhere on the western side of the island is just right! Make sure you read this before you go http://mintaka.sdsu.edu/GF/ BTW, sunset is 6:41 pm on the 15th. Since that is the day we arrive on the island we will also be saluting nature's beauty with our pina coladas. :D
serene56 Posted August 15, 2006 Author #7 Share Posted August 15, 2006 6:41pm wow (can ya tell I cruise in the winter. its usually dark by that time in February. Arubalisa Posted August 15, 2006 #8 Share Posted August 15, 2006 West side of the island is going to be the same side of the island that your ship is docked at. As a matter of fact, except for some landmarks and sightseeing, EVERYTHING on the island is on the WEST side. :D The "other" side of the island is a windswept no man's land which would remind you of the landscape of the moon. As far as beaches go, if you would like to kick back with a cocktail, each resort on Palm Beach has their own beachside bar. They all have happy hour specials. There are also a couple of piers jutting out over the water with bars on them. I've been to quite a few of them and cannot really say anthing of them are better than the other. Start at one and you can drink your way down the beach ;) If you are looking for something much quieter and sedate, on Eagle Beach, the Amsterdam Manor Resort or Bucuti Resort each have beachside bars. Arubalisa Posted August 17, 2006 #15 Share Posted August 17, 2006 Straying from the Aruba BB's. Aww...I 've been hanging around on CC since at least 2004 :) Wish I could afford the flying fishbone- the place comes very highly recommended. IF you could swing it, this is a once in a lifetime experience. Our family has sworn off take out food here at home for the past couple months to pay for some our "extras' for our upcoming Aruba trip. It's worth it :)
serene56 Posted August 22, 2006 Author #16 Share Posted August 22, 2006 so far we are doing Palm beach. but conflicted with Eagle beach-- is one better then the other. (all we want is to sit in a chair-- maybe get a drink and watch the sun set. Now figure out when we want to go here-- where do we tell a cab driver-- or will he know where we want to go?? and do you know how much it will cost via taxi. Arubalisa Posted August 23, 2006 #17 Share Posted August 23, 2006 From the cruise ship pier, the taxi fare to Eagle Beach is $8 - $9 each way, depending on whether it is southern or northern end. A taxi to Palm Beach is $10 each way. Less people on Eagle Beach with fewer places to find a drink. More people on Palm Beach, but much greater variety of places to choose from for a drink. serene56 Posted August 23, 2006 Author #18 Share Posted August 23, 2006 another point for Palm Beach- now are these places to get a nice drink located ON the beach. How about chairs?> will there be chairs out at 5pm? drinks? are they the frozen stuff.. yummm
Arubalisa Posted August 24, 2006 #19 Share Posted August 24, 2006 All of the resorts along Palm Beach have beachside bars. I personally have never heard of a beachside bar anywhere which did not served frozen drinks ;) This is the view from Gilligan's Beach Bar at the Radisson http://www.arubabound.com/photos/htl/rad/rest/minnob.jpg The chairs will sometimes still be out, just depends on how much work the "beach boys" have. This photo http://www.arubabound.com/photos/htl/rad/rest/gild.JPG shows Gilligan's proximity to the beach. http://image04.webshots.com/4/1/14/84/59311484XIkxoy_fs.jpg don't know these people, but gives you an idea of how close to the water you will be at Bugaloe Beach Bar & Grill at De Palm Pier. De Palm Pier is located just south of the Radisson. http://www.aruba.hyatt.com/hyatt/hotels/entertainment/lounges/index.jsp the photo at the top of this page is of Piet's Pier Bar at the Hyatt. The Aruba Resort, Spa & Casino's (former Wyndham) is located just to the left of where this photo was taken http://www.arubabound.com/photos/htl/wyn/bch/bz.JPG You can see the arrow pointing the direction in the sign :D Pinchos Bar & Grill http://www.interreps.nl/pinchos.htm is closer to downtown Oranjestad

Arubalisa Posted August 29, 2006 #21 Share Posted August 29, 2006 Lisa: Palm beach and DePalm beach-- are they the same place? No sorry :( .............not even close. Opposite direction from Oranjestad. De Palm Island is south of downtown and Palm Beach is north. De Palm Island is an $18 taxi ride each way from Oranjestad and Palm Beach is a $10 ride each way. Also forgot... I remembered when friends decided we would meet there on the 18th...is that there is a nice beach bar on the beach at the Amsterdam Manor Resort which is along Eagle Beach. A taxi from Orjanestad to the Amsterdam Manor is $9. http://www.taxiaruba.com/new/farelist.html Taxi fares are each way, per car, not per person and will take a maximum of 5 people. serene56 Posted August 30, 2006 Author #23 Share Posted August 30, 2006 Lisa: sorry for bothering you again-- the MArriott has a casino... is it close to palm beach? If the SO wants to go here could we see a sunset from the beach here? Could ya tell me how the beach is at the MArriott with the casino? I want sugar sand beach without the rocks and coral on it. Arubalisa Posted August 30, 2006 #24 Share Posted August 30, 2006 On Palm Beach, the Marriott, Holiday Inn, Hyatt, Radisson, Occidental and Aruba Beach Resort (former Wyndham) all have casinos. All have that sugary white sand. The Marriott Resort with their 2 Vacation Club properties are located further down the beach apart from the other resorts. It is the furthest north on Palm Beach. The other resorts on Palm Beach are all next to one another. Which bars close at 6 pm?
serene56 Posted August 30, 2006 Author #25 Share Posted August 30, 2006 i found a menu from Tortuga bar and grill and it says bar open daily from 11am til 6pm. (thought that rather odd) are these casinos listed above walking distance from each other?? is one better then the other?
