Umbarger Posted August 15, 2006 #2 Share Posted August 15, 2006 I researched the Spirit once as we were thinking of cruising on it, but didnt. The only thing I can tell you that in a ship of over 700 cabins only 4 are HC and they are all inside cabins. Yes, thats right...............ONLY 4. What a choice the disabled have. If you need a HC cabin you better book really early! Happy cruising. Linda

cruiser12 Posted August 15, 2006 Author #4 Share Posted August 15, 2006 Thank you for getting back to me. We booked three cabins on the Spirit, we have a AD suite for our daughter, son-in law,and granddaughter, a BC for our son and daughter-in law, and of course we have the inside HC cabin. I know we will be fine. We are going on vacation ! ! !
DEL67 Posted August 17, 2006 #5 Share Posted August 17, 2006 We were on the NCL Spirit in Nov 2004. Since it was built for the Asian market, it did not have some of the HC features that other ships of age have; however, it has been in drydock since then and I do not know what changes they made. Regardless, we did not have any major issues. Although not as big as some others we have had on other ships, our HC cabin was good sized. We left the beds perpendicular to each other to make sure my husband had enough space to turn around. The bathroom was also a little smaller than those in many other HC cabins, but it was adequate with a roll-in shower and roll-under sink. The safety bars were not secured properly, but I assume they have fixed that. We also had a problem because the beds were so low that my 6'2" husband had trouble getting up. The cabin steward solved the problem by doubling his mattress using the mattress from the bunk bed. Generally the ship was accessible. However, I believe that getting out onto the "promenade deck" was difficult except near the purser's desk and the room where they held the art auctions was not accessible. One thing that did impress me was that they sent someone to escort us to the boat drill. We had already left for the drill so they left a message stating that someone had been assigned to escort us in case of an emergency.
cruiser12 Posted August 17, 2006 Author #6 Share Posted August 17, 2006 DEL67 Thank you for getting back to me with the info re: the hc cabin. I was trying to remember how large other cabins we have had were. The largest that comes to mind is on Dawn, cabin 11609. ( 279 sq. ft.) I will probably find that size again when Gem comes to NewYork.
