Thanks everyone! It has been long and hard - just got the other 2 couples at the same hotel for the same price.

Now all we need is the air fare and we are watching it daily. Some say it will drop after the first of Sept. I think we will go ahead and book then anyway - we are all ok with the price.

Hope you all have a great evening!

I just won the Intercontinental San Juan Resort Spa & Casino

(First bid was rejected at $93.00 a few days prior)

10/29-10/30 at $103.00 + $19.59 = $122.59 Total

Resorts/Zone 8

I also won this same hotel last year & it was awesome! Great pool/beach & fitness center over-looking the ocean! Super excited, it is the hotel that I wanted!

Priceline

San Juan zone/Resort class

2 Rooms

1-23-11 (Saturday night)

Marriott SJ Stellaris

$150 + tax

Tried $110, $120, $130. At $130 it said I could resubmit if I was willing to raise my bid by $20. Finally successful. I was hoping for less, but the hotel looks very nice and I was getting tired of searching. Much cheaper than if I had booked it any other way. I'm pleased.

I am doing a search for bidding on line for Priceline hotels in San Juan. While doing so, this thread popped up.

Never used Priceline before but now interested after checking out the regular rates.

Ouch!!!!Room rate start from $300-$600 a night.

Friend who will be cruising with me, was accepted at $106 for the Marriott. Nice!!!

I'm hoping to get the same price. ;)Since I'm new, I am wondering what's the best bid for a resort to be accepted?

Hi Feelin' Nauti', read the last 8-10 pages of this thread and you should be well armed with informative strategy. Also, if new to Priceline, make sure you read through and agree to all their terms and conditions. I did all this for the first time recently and got the Marriott Stellarus for 2 pre cruise nights in late February for $111. Take your time and work with their system. Good luck!

I read dozens of threads on bidding on Priceline and took a chance.

Well, they didn't like the bid I gave them. :(.. $106 for a Resort in San Juan.

Tomorrow I will try again.

Looking back, I don't know where I found the patience to bid 5 times over 4 days  but it finally worked. You'll get there...

I think this is good news for you, although it is unfortunate you have to bid more than $106. I am very experienced with using Priceline, all over the USA, Europe and Asia (but not yet in San Juan). And I love "playing the game" of seeking the best possible price. For me, it's a hobby - for others, it is a chore.

Nothing bothers me more than when Priceline accepts my first bid. I want my first bid to be rejected. If it gets accepted, it means I probably overbid and could have gotten accepted at a lower price. As I said, I love playing the game.

So, congratulations on getting rejected :D Now, just move your bids upward a little every day.

Sorry if I wasn't clear...

I got the Marriott Stellaris -- which I was hoping for. :D

Looks like the price can vary a lot from day to day, or month to month, obviously depending on what's going on in San Juan at that time, and how many cruise ships are in town.

On my sailaway date, Nov 12, we are the only ship in port, so the prices are lower than if there are multiple ships in port.

Likewise, any conventions or holidays would raise the rates as well.

Good luck everyone with your bidding.

Just keep in mind that when they come up with a counter offer (like if you increase your bid to $xxx you can have the room).....don't take it. Come back and bid about 1/2 way between your bid and their counter offer.

Example...you bid $110...they say bid $130. Wait and bid 120 (or if you have time and want to "play"...try 115 and work your way to 120). Amounts here are strictly an example.

Thanks for the great tip!!!!

Didn't realize you could do that.

Good to know.

Does anyone know if there are some better days of the week to try and if a certain time of the day works better then others when trying to bid on Priceline?

I dont think a certain day or time makes a difference. I do know I booked through priceline winning a bid for the Marriot San Juan Resort and Stellaris in April for my upcoming (1/23/11) pre and post cruise stays and got the rooms for $110 and $107. Seeing others posting of not getting a room under $150 for the same dates Im glad I bid early. Now I really feel like I got a deal. I also booked my airfare early and found they changed the times for leaving and coming back. Not by a few minutes but completely cancelled the other flights. Im flexable so it wasnt a disaster.

Priceline

Caribe Hilton (requested a 3 and a half star)

Oct. 30 - Nov. 1

$95 plus tax

Radisson Ambassador (requested a 3 star)

$75 plus tax

Said they upgraded us???? I probably should have bid lower, but I'm just happy to be going!!!!
