We will be going to St. Thomas in January on the Navigator and are wondering if anyone has done a snorkeling excursion and which one was the best. Not sure if we should do one from the ship or a private one.

It's not snorkeling per se, but you might want to look into snuba. I hear lots of good things about it.

Our first choice is

http://www.rumbabacharters.com/cruises.htm

We have a credit card holding our spot. Great great reviews here on Cruise Critic. Do a search on "Rumbaba". It's sailing/snorkeling. We want more snorkeling so that's what we've requested. And posted on our Roll Call for 4 more. As the trip gets closer, we will confirm that's what we will get. If not...

We loved St John's Trunk Bay when we were there. We took the ships excursion, but the more I read, we might do the ferry from Red Hook next time. You get more time there. Anyway, to answer your question, I recommend Trunk Bay. The beach is clean, the water is clean and they have pylons in the water with plaques on them to show you the fish and coral you see. Very cool place.....

Did you have an idea of how much per person the Rumbaba Charters is? or either of your plan "b"'s?

We are sailing end of this month (Yippee, at last:p , Sun Princess 10/31), and have done lots of research on shore trips for each port. We are booked with Interlinesail on St Thomas (http://www.interlinesail.com) for our snorkel/sail to St John. After reading reviews on cruise boards and Trip Advisor, we emailed Captain Omar, and he called us back on the phone. He was most helpful (especially since I gave him the wrong date in port/twice:cool: , and he had to call us back twice). He answered all the DW, Kathie's, many questions, and even gave us advice for our Dominca stop. He seemed to know a lot about all the islands, and was very personable (even found out he is a Canadian and was looking forward to cooking a turkey for Canadian Thanksgiving). Captain Omar told us it was best to take a taxi from our ship (Crown Bay, we think)to Red Hook, but that he would walk us up to the local $2 bus for our return to town, which will save us money (taxis are very expensive on St Thomas:( )

Interlines rate is $110 per person, which will include lunch (he gave us a choice of 6 lunch entrees), snacks, drinks and champagne:D . We are really looking forward to our cruise and snorkeling in St Thomas.

Larry and Kathie

Thanks for everyone's responses. For the ones takng the interline trip, how many people are on the ship? Please let me know what you thought about your trip when you get. Thanks again

Will do- we will write a review of our snorkel tour with Interlinesail when we return. Time is getting close, and we are excited; leaving 10/31:)

Forgot to answer your question- we have 3 couples, a total of 6, but were told by the Captain that Interline sails with as few as 2, but a max of 6 (some kind of law they have down there restricts most of these sails to a max of 6).
