Nassau - to Excursion or Not?

I will be travelling to Nassau in Feb. 2007 and am undecided about whether to book an excursion or not ... we'd like to see Atlantis and check out the basic flavor of the island ... thoughts? suggestions? Thanks!

thelarkins, you can visit Atlantis on your own. Read through the Bahamas forum to see what else you might like to do and plan your day that way.

 

There's a carriage ride available for about $20 (I think it's a 30 min ride)

 

The straw market is right by the port. You can see it when you dock. It's right next to Senor Frogs.

 

There are several beaches that are highly recommended on the boards, along with the Queens Staircase, the pirate museum, etc.
