Flights from Whittier/Anchorage

Can anyone offer advice on flights after cruise has ended in Whittier. We are considering travelling to New York for 3 day city visit but I am struggling to get a handle on flights out of Alaska. Are there any flights to other major US cities with no stops. We would consider stopover in other areas before flying back to UK but trying to avoid as many journeys as possible! Do most Alaska flights change at Seattle?

Also, what transportation is available between Whittier/Anchorage?

Thanks!

There are several hub citys, Atlanta, Detroit, Portland, Seattle, Minneapolis, Salt Lake etc etc.

depends on the airline. Look at the 3 NYC airports LGA, EWR, JFK for the most options.

Whittier to Anchorage, cruise contracted rail, maybe, cruise contracted bus, one way rental car with Avis, independent bus. But perhaps don't be in a rush to get out of Alaska, there is so much to see and do interior with being all the way there- take advantage. Denali Park and Kenai fjords are do not miss. :)

NYC in the summer can be brutal with sweltering heat- subway platforms are over 100. :) If looking for "bargain" lodging, reserve something now, and keep checking for drops. I go there 3-4 times/year for usually 4 days at a time. Wonderful city but summer isn't the best. :)

Continental Airlines used to have a nonstop from Newark but they dropped it a few years ago.

There are great connections through Seattle on Alaska Airlines, Minneapolis/St. Paul and Detroit through Northwest, Denver and Chicago on United, Dallas and Chicago on American, Phoenix on US Airways, and Salt Lake City and Cincinnati on Delta. Delta also offers nonstops from Atlanta while Continental does Houston but that is a bit out of the way. Finally, Frontier offers seasonal service from Denver with connections from a number of cities. Some airlines do offer through flights from east coast cities with no change of plane during the summer months.
