US currency in Canada?

Recommended Posts

Is it better to change the currency to Canadian $$? We will be leaving from Vancouver but we have a stop in Victoria. I thought if we used our credit card (you get a better exchange rate) for most of the things it would be ok, but do the shops take US $$ ?

US $$ are always welcomed in Victoria as it is a tourist driven town but for the best rate you might want to convert some bills for the small amounts - otherwise just use your credit cards.

Enjoy your cruise and Vancouver and Victoria

The shops will take US$, but you will get a terrible exchange rate. Best to use credit cards whenever you can and get Cdn$ for incidentals like snacks, taxis, and tipping. ATMs are an easy way to get cash and give a good rate of exchange - total cost depends on whether your individual card has extra service fees.

Everyone takes Us money-the bigger shops will give a better rate. Most stores in Victoria are part of a program where they all give the same rate. You would still be better off going to the bank.

Time for another Cruise!
