Bob100 Posted January 12, 2007 #1 Share Posted January 12, 2007 Just a quick question (real quick, we leave for St. Thomas in two days!). My wife had heard that there are some safety issues generally on St. Thomas, with occasional muggings in Charlotte Amalie. I am sure that any major city has crime and you always have to be cognizant of your surroundings, but was wondering if anyone out there had experienced any trouble. We will mainly be staying around the red hook area and the secret harbour beach/sapphire beach locations. Are these locations safe? What about going out to restaurants at night? Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!! The Islander Posted January 12, 2007 #2 Share Posted January 12, 2007 Hello, Yes those areas are generally safe. At night its safe to go out to restaurants. Not a good idea to go for a stroll at night, use taxis to get from point A to point B or if you are renting a car - try and get a parking spot that is close to where you are going and in a well lit parking spot. --Islander *****
richtersl Posted January 13, 2007 #3 Share Posted January 13, 2007 Definitely consider taking a cab if you want to have dinner in town. The cab driver will leave you off right in front of the restaurant and you won't have to worry about parking. If you're having dinner at a resort then you should be OK with parking and just use common sense as to where you leave your car. If you have dinner at the Wyndham (which is in the area where you're staying), you will need to check in at the gate and park in the lower lot. A shuttle will pick you up from there and take you to the resort. It's safe to wait by the gate because it's manned. The food was quite good and the views overlooking St. John were awesome!
