Any advice on arranging shore excursions in China, Korea and Japan besdies taking ships tours?

Go to the Roll Calls-Holland America board, then to the Statendam board and then to the thread titled "Statendam, 2007, March 2, Sydney to Hong Kong" and the thread titled "Statendam, March 22, 2007, Hong Kong to Osaka". Several of the responses describe making arrangemnts for independent tours to Beijing, and Shanghai and things to do in the other ports.

 

 

I would strongly advise making independent arrangements. We have arranged for an independent two day tour to Beijing for $289 per person while others have done better at about $220 per person with a group of 8. Our private tour will have a driver and an English guide and we won' be subjected to the big bus and the mob of 40 other guests. The exorbitant HAL price for the same tour is $639 per person!!. For Shanghai we have arranged a one day tour with another couple for $59 per person. The HAL tour is $115 per person!
