Publicans Posted February 11, 2007 #1 Share Posted February 11, 2007 Hi. We are having two nights in Sydney before we head off March 9th on the P.Sun and I was wondering if anyone knew of a hotel to stay at that you could see the ships come in to port in the morning? Thanks, Margo.
novemberbravo1974 Posted February 11, 2007 #2 Share Posted February 11, 2007 Observatory Hotel on Kent Street - Very Very Nice Place, You will pay quite abit but Its really good. If you get the chance enjoy a drink in the Globe Bar and Dinner at Gallileo ( Its got choice of Fixed Price Tasting Menu's as well as A la Carte. ) Highly Recommend this hotel having stayed there twice. Be sure to request a Harbour View room of course for the view. The Street View room are cheaper ( So be sure you know what your getting ) also Shangrila - Get a High Floor Room with a Western View and you will have a great view of Darling Harbour. Needless to say the Shangrila featurs fine restaurant options as well. also Star City - Its kind of a crap casino compared to other places in the world but then so is cruising from Australia most of the time compared to the rest of the world. You can get a Harbour view room that will get you a nice view of the Wharf and your arriving ship. Nothing amazing about any of the restaurants at Star City ( Astral would be the pick but there is better in Sydney for that kind of scratch ie Rockpool or Aria for example ) Enjoy your cruise!!!! mummsie Posted February 11, 2007 #3 Share Posted February 11, 2007 We stayed in the Sheraton - got a really good price online. Its right next door to Piermont Bridge and the aquarium. About a 10 minute walk to the terminal and very very nice hotel. Mummsie
jessica3152 Posted February 12, 2007 #4 Share Posted February 12, 2007 York Apartments has a view over the wharf area as does the casino but it is from the Ultimo side of Darling Harbour. Best views of the harbour and bridge are from hotels such as Shang-ri-la, Four Seasons, Park Hyatt, Intercontinental or Quay West. All of these are exxy and you will need to pay for the premium rooms but I had a 2 bedroom apartment at the Quay West and the view was amazing. Fortunately work was paying the $460 per night cost. None of these hotels are within walking distance of the wharf if you have luggage. They would be great if you were leaving from Circular Quay on Sapphire Princess, QE2 etc however. The closest hotel to Wharf 8, the Medina Grand only has views in you are near the top floors and have a north facing apartment.
Publicans Posted February 16, 2007 Author #5 Share Posted February 16, 2007 Thanks everyone. Lots of the suggestions are a bit out of our price range though! I'll have to keep looking. Margo.
physiemum Posted February 16, 2007 #6 Share Posted February 16, 2007 Hi ,try the Ibis Darling Harbour-book a Darling Harbour view room, not a pyrmont view and you will get a view of the wharf. The rooms are small but its one of the cheaper hotels in the city, especially if you book it on Wotif, plus you have the monorail right at your door and the eateries at darling harbour a few steps away-enjoy the cruise-I'm off again on March 20th-can't get enough of cruising-just wish i had the bank balance to try some of the European ,Mediterranean and Carribean cruises-oh well maybe Lotto will come up tonight-$20million should keep me going for a while! Rare arxcards Posted February 17, 2007 #7 Share Posted February 17, 2007 Thanks everyone. Lots of the suggestions are a bit out of our price range though! I'll have to keep looking.Margo. This one may not be in the cheapest price range either, and will not give a view of Wharf 8. The views of the cruise ships coming in past the Opera House, under the bridge and rounding Dawes Point into Darling Harbour are sensational. www.harboursideapartments.com.au They are located at McMahons Point and look side on to the bridge, and have a ferry stop out the front. (The view in the cruise counter is from Milsons Point. McMahons Point gives an even better angle) We are looking forward to staying there again for two days B4 our December cruise. Cheapest option that comes to mind (3 star) would be Ibis at Darling Harbour. Try to get a Harbour room at least halfway up.
