jwilcox Posted February 11, 2007 #1 Share Posted February 11, 2007 Lots of recommendations about water tours in Kenai - not so much about what to do on land. After cruising for a week, we would like to find a nice lodge or cabin to spend a couple days. What we would like is to have beuatiful scenery, some restful quiet, perhaps a nice restaurant or two reasonably nearby. After all the crowds and excitement of a cruise we would like a change of pace with something a little more quiet. We will be disembarking from a Princess cruise in the morning in Whittier. Coould rent a car there if necessary to get somehwere. Might want to do one of the Kenai Fjord tours out of Seward. So somewhere that is within reasonable driving distance of there would be nice ... but if someone has a better idea, we're open. If there is somewhere to get to by train rather than driving, that's OK too. We haven't planned our return flight yet. But we will leave out of Anchorage. So in the end we will need someway to get to the ariport. Any suggestions would be very welcome. Thanks.
SkiCruiser Posted February 12, 2007 #2 Share Posted February 12, 2007 Hi jwilcox: We decided that after our cruise and land tour we wanted a few days to relax before we headed home. This is the place that I found on the beach in Seward. Looks pretty awesome. swdke Posted February 12, 2007 #3 Share Posted February 12, 2007 A great place is in Homer. Why not stay at a B & B. We're staying at the Ocean House B & B, and have stayed there twice before. The B & B and Homer is a great retreat surrounded by Alaskan beauty.
stired Posted February 12, 2007 #4 Share Posted February 12, 2007 Haven't been yet - going this June - but the Alaska Saltwater Lodge comes highly recommended on CC. Right on the water in Seward and a little ways out of town, so should be quiet and relaxing. http://alaskasaltwaterlodge.com/
elceecarr Posted February 12, 2007 #5 Share Posted February 12, 2007 We went last August and stayed in Soldotna (Kenai Peninsula) for 3 nights. The hotel was on the Kenai River and we could watch the fishermen fish off the banks or take long walks along the rushing river banks. There was plenty to do as far as flightseeing, river rafting, relaxing, etc. We also stayed a night in Seward at the Holiday Inn right there by the water. What a wonderful place to stay and relax. Plenty to do there in Seward as well. Did dogsledding, the Kenai Fjords Nat'l park tour as well as the aquarium there in town.
Budget Queen Posted February 14, 2007 #6 Share Posted February 14, 2007 Your "Kenai" reference covers everything. I suggest you do some homework and determine what area has the most interest for you. Head to your library and take out Alaska travel books, request visitor guides http://www.keniapeninsula.com Then look for a cozy accomdation. :)
