Mercury cabin selection---please help!

Hi--

We are having problems with our Mercury reservation. They won't let us add a fourth person to our four-person room (they said the deck capacity is full!!! How can this be??). The best I've been able to get them to do without having to spend a lot of money and yet keep our ocean view is switch to cabin 5012 on the Plaza deck. is this a noisy cabin? I htink it's under the theater. Please help if you know anything about this location. thanks!

Most cruise lines have capacity issues in order to comply with Coast Guard and other safety regulations. I was booked on the Sapphire Princess with another family and they needed a quad. Even though cabins were available with 4 beds, they would not sell them. My friends had to move to another deck too.

I assume its that even though a ship may have bed capacity, they need to control the number of passengers who would use life boats in a station.

I have been on the Mercury twice. I also am very cautious about cabin noise. While the seating for the theater is above you, the area is carpeted and in my experience noise from music tends to go up. I try to avoid cabins above lounges, casinos, and theaters. But given that, you may hear a bit of sound from a late show.

Thanks for the reply and explanation. Unfortunately, our online travel agent said it would be "no problem" to add a fourth person to our room anytime we wanted. That is why we booked the tickets in advance of knowing whether the fourth person could come or not. Nothing was mentioned about this possible problem.

Now we are spending more money for a worse room 3 categories down. Saving a few bucks by booking with a huge online agency is not worth it. I've used this online site for years for airplane tickets and never had a problem. I thought i could trust them. I know we will have fun anyway, but lesson learned--find an honest travel agent (local, or through personal recommendations) and stick with that person.
