cmthomas Posted August 3, 2004 #2 Share Posted August 3, 2004 Which land tour are you taking? Is your river cruise 7 days on the Century Star? We are considering the land tour that includes Tibet but wonder if the additional time and extra cost is worth it. It would be appreciated if you would keep your ears open for us on this subject if any of your fellow passengers have been to Tibet. I am anxious to hear how the weather is for this itinerary in August. Thinking about doing it next year but was leaning toward September. If there is some reason why Spring time is better we might postpone it until Spring 2006. Already have Spring 2005 booked for a trip to the Galapagos. Looking forward to a detailed report after your return. Real time experience beats the brochure description every time! Bon voyage! :D Clarence
mmaskaly Posted August 4, 2004 #3 Share Posted August 4, 2004 I think we are on the same trip. We leave LA on the 18th, arrive late the 19th, tour Shanghai on the 20th, fly to Stephong the afternoon of the 21st and link up with the Victoria Queen. Is this your trip? tommui987 Posted September 28, 2004 #8 Share Posted September 28, 2004 We just returned twenty days ago from the Viking "Imperial Treasures of China". The people that joined us in Chungqing from the Viking Tibet portion did not think it was worth the effort. They commented that the food was bad and it was physically demanding - altitude and that sort of thing, not to mention that the palace required good physical condition as it was one flight of stairs after another! The tour of China next year is a bit different from ours - less time on the ship and a couple new places to visit. As for the overall observations, Viking runs a class act - to the point where we have booked them for a Budapest-Nuremburg cruise in May!
