Price differences

Recommended Posts

To all seasoned cruisers, what can I do if I find that the current price (no promotional price) of the cruise is much, much lower than the price I paid a few weeks ago? Can I ask for an upgrade or other compliments to compensate for the price difference?

If it is before final payment, my TAs in the past have had the price reduced. Once it lowered after final payment and a credit was applied to my credit card. I think it depends on the cruiseline. If booked direct with the cruiseline, call them and ask for the difference in price. Maybe some others with more experience can add their opinion.

Last year on your cruise to Bermuda we saved over $700. Our cruise was paid, so RC credited our credit card for the savings. It was a phone call to our TA, and she took care of it, after I found the difference in price on the RC site.

mine is with celebrity and I asked the TA what can I do. She said that I can cancel my booking and make a new one but that involve penalty, and she will pass my message to the cruiseline and ask what they could do on this. Credit is good too but I may not be cruise on celebrity next time so I prefer upgrade or extra gifts. Tks for your advices and will tell you the final result.

Mine was with celebrity also and a week after I paid my final payment the price dropped $100/pp (4 people sailing), so that was significant to me. Called my TA, and she got the price adjusted. There was no change in booking numbers from what I can see on my reservation account at the Celebrity website (am still waiting for the confirmation page from my TA). My credit card was credited w/in a couple of days. Keep in mind that the TA's commission drops when the price of the cruise drops! If your TA waits too long the price will go back up once the cruiseline sells a certain amount of rooms. If they offer onboard credit for your cruise instead of to your credit card, that can work, because you can pay for tips, shore excursions, drinks, casino, etc from that credit--it is not for future cruises.

Happy Sailing!

I just booked my cruise through Carnival on7/18. I am a past guest, so I got an extended balcony for the price of oceanview. The next day I got a quote for about $500.00 less from a online TA. I called Carnival and asked why I couldn't get that price and they told me I would have to cancel with them and rebook with the online service. Not knowing anything about the online site, I kept my reservation with Carnival. I can't believe they didn't offer me any onboard credit.

Celebrity offers a transfer of booking to a TA without having to cancel if it is before final payment. Would you loose any deposit if you cancelled and rebooked, $500 can go a long way toward other cruise related expenses--tips, airfare, shore excursions.

The term "price adjustment" is common with travel agents. They'll know that you know what you are talking about. It helps if you get the information priced again so you know exactly how much you are expecting back. The travel agent calls the cruise company and your credit card gets the partial refund.

I got a little bit of a runaround at first (which might have simply been confusion on my TA's part), but once I told them I want a "price adjustment" for $560, they went ahead and called the cruise line.

Tks to all for your advices and sharings. I have got a upgrade from an inside cabin to a deluxe ocean view cabin. It is a nice surprise for my first cruise and I'm really looking forward to it.

If I may ask how did you get such an upgrade?

Ct Cruise Guy, I searched the cruiseline website one day and found that the price of the same class of cabin on the web dropped significantly weeks after I paid up the total, which in normal sense the closer the cruise date the higher the price. I called my TA asking why and demanded that some form of compensation should be done on this. I suggested an upgrade, at least, to cover the price difference. She agreed to raise my query to the cruise company and a few days later I got her reply that the cruise company agreed to upgrade my cabin class. Therefore, do check up the price of the cruise frequently even if you've totally paid-up and if there exists a significant price decrease called up and asked -- no harm to ask anyway -- you might have the same nice surprise too.
