Sydney, Nova Scotia on Sunday

Recommended Posts

Just noticed we are in Sydney on a Sunday. Will many things be closed? (particularly Louisbourg??)

No, fortress will not be closed... but recommend you go with local as you will only have 1.25-1.5 hours on a ship tour.. way way too short a time. http://www.richmondcounty.ca/tourism/index.htm may have some info re fortress hours on Sunday

Caroline: in this and multiple threads you have emphasized going "local" in order to have enough time. We plan to take your advice and price the taxis and car rental at the pier. If we do choose the cab route, have you heard whether it is tricky to get a cab ride back? Do you set up a time in advance with the 1st driver... or call a number when ready?

I cannot for the life of me find the info I got last year when we were there but I'm gonna keep looking. In the meantime, here's a link http://louisbourg.com/fortress.html to the Fortress. If I recall correctly for $80 CA they take you, you have about 3 hours there and bring you back.. it's aboutg a 1/2 hour ride from Sydney to the fortress. I am going to keep looking and will post when I find the stuff.!

  • 4 weeks later...

The information on Fortress of Louisbourg says the restaurants and bakery are only open until Sept. 30th. Will all the costumed workers be there in early October? With all the cruise ships coming, I'd think they might extend their season a bit.

Last year, I was there on 10/14 (a Tuesday). They were definitely in "scale-down" mode -- which makes sense. Because of this, some buildings were closed. There was still lunch available. Although there weren't as many interpreters around, the experience is more personal because there aren't huge crowds.
